What Is -2/3 as a Decimal + Solution With Free Steps

2by3 As A Decimal 1The fraction -2/3 as a decimal is equal to -0.6666666.

In fractions, the number above the line is called the numerator, and the number below the line is called the denominator, while the line that separates the numerator and the denominator is known as the divide symbol. To solve the fraction, we have multiple methods, but the method that is easy to understand is the Long Division method.

The solution to covert the fraction -2/3 to decimal by the Long Division method is as under:

Solution

Before starting the solution, there are some terms that need to be explained, like the Dividend and the Divisor. The dividend is basically the numerator of the fraction while the divisor is basically the denominator of the fraction or we can also say that the number above the line of the fraction is the dividend, and similarly, the number below the fraction line is the divisor.

Dividend = -2

Divisor = 3

By adding the new term quotient, which is referred to as the outcome of the intended division, we are now rearranging this fraction in a more informative manner.

Quotient = Dividend $\div$ Divisor = -2 $\div$ 3

The solution of the long division method can be as below for the given fraction:-2/3 Long Division Method

-2/3 Long Division Method

The step-by-step approach of the Long Division method is defined here.

The fraction we had:

-2 $\div$ 3

Since there is a negative sign in the division so one thing is certain: the quotient will be negative as well. Before starting, we have to check whether there is a need to introduce the Decimal point or not. Here, the numerator is less than the denominator, so we need to introduce the decimal point first.

So after putting the Decimal point we can now add Zero to the right side of the Dividend and now the dividend will be -20.

Here another term is required to be mentioned, and that is Remainder. As its name shows, it is the remaining number after the division.

-20 $\div$ 3 $\approx$ -6

Where:

3 x -6 = -18

The generated Remainder is –2.

So now we will add Zero to the Remainder’s right to further our solution. So now the new remainder is -20, and this time there is no need to add the decimal point again because it is already in the quotient.

-20 $\div$ 3 $\approx$ -6

Where:

3 x -6 = -18

After this division, the Remainder is again 2, so by repeating the previous step of adding Zero to the Remainder’s right, the new remainder is now again 20.

 -20 $\div$ 3 $\approx$ -6

Where:

3 x -6 = -18

We have a resulting Quotient equal to –0.666 with a Remainder of -2. So if we continue to solve further, we can find the answer to more decimal numbers.Quotient and remainder of 2 per 3
