Pokémon Stat Calculator + Online Solver With Free Steps

The Pokémon Stat Calculator looks up the base stats (hit points, attack, speed, etc.) of any Pokémon, given its name. It uses the Knowledgebase, which keeps track of Pokémon stats (along with other things).

What Is the Pokémon Stat Calculator?

The Pokémon Stat Calculator is an online tool that finds the base stats of any Pokémon, given its name. There are a total of seven base stats: hit points, attack, defense, special attack, special defense, speed, and total stats (sum of the other six).

The Pokémon Stat calculator interface consists of a single text box named as “base stats of,” in which you enter the name of the Pokémon whose base stats you want to find out.

How To Use the Pokémon Stat Calculator?

You can use the Pokémon Stat Calculator to find the base stats of any Pokémon you want by entering the Pokémon’s name in the field. This is helpful if you are arguing with another Pokémon fanatic!

For example, suppose you want to find the base stats of Pikachu. You can use the calculator for this by following the step-by-step guidelines below.

Step 1

Enter the name of the Pokémon into the text box labeled “base stats of.” For this example, you would type “Pikachu” without quotes.

Make sure you type the name correctly – if the calculator does not find a Pokémon, you most likely made a spelling mistake or that Pokémon does not exist.

Step 2

Press the Submit button to get the results.

Results

The results contain the stats (hit points, attack, defense, special attack, special defense, speed, total stats) for the input Pokémon, followed by an optional prompt for “Source Information.” Clicking on the prompt expands the results by including links to the primary and secondary reference sources.

The results for Pikachu’s base stats are as follows:

Hit points: 35

Attack: 55

Defense: 40

Special attack: 50

Special defense: 50

Speed: 90

Total stats: 320

You can use any Pokémon’s name – the calculator is regularly updated for newer variants.

How Does the Pokémon Stat Calculator Work?

The Pokémon Stat Calculator works by looking up the input string (the Pokémon’s name) in the Wolfram|Alpha Knowledgebase, 2022, and printing out the relevant information. This database is the primary source of information. Other reference databases are also listed:

  1. Bulbagarden Networks – Bulbapedia
  2. Merrick, J. – Serebii.net
  3. The Pokémon Company – Pokemon.com
  4. The Pokémon Wiki
  5. Vivian, S. – Pokémon Database
  6. The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. – Wikipedia

The calculator adds links to these websites in its results. However, inclusion in the list does not necessarily mean the Pokémon stats came from there. They are included only as a source of further information.

What is Pokémon?

Pokémon is a Japanese media franchise managed by The Pokémon Company in Japan, and it is based on fictional creatures called Pokémon (Pocket Monsters, abbreviated to Pokémon), captured by Pokémon trainers (humans), and trained to battle against other Pokémon for sport. The franchise was created in 1996 by Satoshi Tajiri.

Originally, Pokémon was a very successful turn-based video game for GameBoy developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. Its popularity also led to the creation of an anime television series, and the subsequent development of various card games based on the Pokémon battle premise, much like Beyblade.

The Need to Track Stats

Pokémon remains very popular among fans and the newer generations, so the franchise is still developing new media around it. As the number of Pokémon increases with the newer Pokémon generations, keeping track of their stats and different modifiers becomes harder and harder.

Over time, fans of the media have developed websites with the sole purpose of keeping information on all the Pokémon ever created. A comprehensive database is also online on The Pokémon Company’s website. They allow quick access to the various Pokémon stats.

Use of the Calculator

The Pokémon Stat Calculator intends to reduce the time it takes to look up a Pokémon’s base stats. Databases can sometimes be clunky to navigate, and usually contain a lot of information in addition to stats, requiring the user to search for the relevant information.

The calculator boils the problem down to simply entering the name of the Pokémon, and everything else happens automatically, requiring minimum hassle!

Pokémon Base Stats

Since Pokémon is centered around fighting, each Pokémon has certain attributes called statistics, or stats for short. These stats can be modified due to various factors (special attack in battle, some passive ability, etc.). The unmodified stats are called the base stats

Pokémon also evolve. Each Pokémon evolution has a new name, and all these stats increase in the evolved version. For example, Bulbasaur has a total stat count of 318, whereas its first evolution, Ivysaur, sits at 405.

Significance of Stats

The base stats define the type of Pokémon and an idea of their performance against other Pokémon. Pokémon fighting is turn-based and involves a lot of tactics, so the Pokémon with the higher stat count does not always win. Regardless, they are significant in determining which Pokémon is good for which battle.

Below, we look at the various base stats and what they mean:

  • Hit points: Also called HP, these represent the health of a Pokémon. Hit points reduce upon taking damage from other Pokémon, and can increase with abilities. If the hit points equal zero, the Pokémon faints and loses the battle.
  • Attack: The amount of damage a Pokémon inflicts on an attack. The final damage inflicted is reduced by the opponent Pokémon’s defense stat.
  • Defense: The amount of damage reduced when a Pokémon receives an attack.
  • Special Attack: The amount of damage inflicted by a Pokémon when performing a special attack (unique to each Pokémon).
  • Special Defense: The amount of damage mitigated when a Pokémon receives a special attack.
  • Speed: This stat determines which Pokémon will act first in battle. It is ignored for quick attacks. If it is the same for both Pokémon, this is randomly decided for each turn.
  • Total Stats: The sum of all the other stat numbers.

All these stats can be boosted/reduced during battle by various modifiers.

Solved Example

Example 1

Joel and David are arguing over which Pokémon has more hitpoints, Registeel or Pidgeot.

Joel argues that Registeel has significantly greater total stats than Pidgeot, so Registeel has more hitpoints. David argues that Registeel is a high-defense Pokémon which is the main reason for the high stat difference.

As intermediaries who stick to the facts, we need to help Joel and David settle their argument.

Solution

Let us use the calculator to find the base stats for Pidgeot. We type Pidgeot into the calculator and get the following results:

  • Hit points: 83
  • Attack: 80
  • Defense: 75
  • Special attack: 70
  • Special defense: 70
  • Speed: 101
  • Total stats: 479

For Registeel, we get the following base stats:

  • Hit points: 80
  • Attack: 75
  • Defense: 150
  • Special attack: 75
  • Special defense: 150
  • Speed: 50
  • Total stats: 580

From these results, we can see that Joel was wrong about the hit points, although he was correct on the total stats of Registeel being much higher than Pidgeot. David was correct on both parts of his argument: not only does Pidgeot have higher hit points, but Registeel is also a special defense Pokémon with high defensive stats.
